I really like reading stuff from either Waymoe or Raphmoe, I think it's refreshing, witty and funny in a good way.
Somehow, I always thought that someone very familiar with Jalopnik is behind them, because they know too much.
Well, in a very rare visit to Hooniverse.com, I found this profile of a former Jalopnik commenter. I unfortunately don't remember his name here.

That's it, however, I don't remember him as being particularly witty.

I'm not sure. I have a very different suspicion regarding who is behind the 'moes. And it's been a while since I've had direct interactions with him. He's over on the goog's.

I always thought it was The Jalopnik Historian.

The guy behind Waymoe and Raphmoe is - *feels ominous presence over shoulder*...nobody. Nobody at all.

Or Spiegel

I doubt it's nobody ... I mean it could be. But I don't know that he has the time for that. =)

Personally, I think it's Orlove.

That's a heck of a screen name.

Read the last line.
Plus the writing styles and random lack of capitalization match up.
I'm like 98% sure of this.

I DIDN'T TELL NOBODY I SWEARS!!!

I think that's just someone trying to be a Brian's copycat.

I suppose this will take some explanation.
In a column by Sam Smith in a recent Road & Track, he philosophized about Internet conversations regarding manual transmissions. My username is what I misremembered a quote from it as. The real paragraph from which I took that quote goes as follows:
"The Luddite retort is the most common, and also the most grating. You know: Person A says Car X should offer three pedals. Person B immediately condenses that position to ha-ha you hate new things shut up and hand-crank your Model T already. "

Well, they've done an excellent job.
Also, he's jumped into a more than a few of "waymoe's" discussions. Kind of like SKZ/IHAC, except not insane.

That's awesome. It's like meta-hipster/luddite disapproval. I approve!
![]() 10/08/2014 at 12:49 |

Well, it could be interpreted as either disapproval or approval.
![]() 10/08/2014 at 12:51 |

True. In either case, it requires understanding of multiple layers of knowledge, and being able to separate them.

If it was, I suspect he would take him out the grey zone. Raphmoe did complain about his FP post being dismissed..
But maybe Orlove is an elaborate troll, and it's all part of the plan.

Do you think it is potentially problematic, or that it could could be unwantedly troublesome?
I'm asking you because you're a moderator, and one of the most reliably logical people here.

I think some people could misinterpret it, only because it sounds vaguely aggressive (haha, stupid, shut up), but anyone who reads it out should accept that you are very likely a Jalop with a sense of humor.

Then do you think it would be better if it was changed?
![]() 10/08/2014 at 13:01 |

Nope. Not me. Apologies for keeping the mystery alive.
I've no idea where the "Mo" originated as an appendage to the first half my last name. It was my uncle's call sign as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam war.
I liked it and adopted it.
Good luck with your search, folks.

I did my best. When I was on form, I nailed a few COTDs back when that was a thing.

Nope. I think anyone who really believes that you are 100% serious with the name probably has issues already. It's clever, unique and doesn't attack anyone specifically. You could, maybe, run into issues on other gawker/kinja pages (non Jalopnik / Tech based blogs), but I think you're safe here.

All right. Thanks for your input.
Also, you remind me of my older brother. In a good way.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, just didn't remember your writing as being as parodic as the moe's.

Wow, where have you been

The Hoon and G+.
Also, grad school.

HM! I'm also curious. Something fishy with the Moes.

That's what she said... :D
I know, but I'm not sure how to change it as I have a burner.

Lol. Walked into that one.
You can just leaveit it doesn't matter much.

Leave your name as it is.

Well it's not like I could change it anyway. But I will, for now at least.
